Mission Statement

The purpose of the Greater Lansing Association of REALTORS® is to serve its Members and community by providing progressive leadership, education, and knowledge in the expanding real estate industry; by anticipating future needs and trends; by providing services, programs, and materials to enable Members to conduct their individual businesses successfully with integrity and professionalism; and by promoting the American concept of the free enterprise system, always mindful to preserve the right to own, sell, and use real property.

History of GLAR

The Greater Lansing Association of REALTORS®: 100 Years of Growth, Modernization, and Community Service In 1907, a year before the National Association of REALTORS® was formed, 14 Lansing area real estate firms concerned with promoting the interests of real estate organized the first real estate board in this area. The purpose of the organization was to encourage more efficient cooperation between real estate Brokers; to protect the interest of Brokers, Owners, and Purchasers of real estate; and to improve the condition of the real estate profession by cultivating a high standard of ethics in all transactions. In short, they hoped to improve a profession that had, until that time, been unregulated by state government or by a private membership association.   The organization was incorporated in 1917 under the name of the Lansing Real Estate Board. Four years later, the name was changed to the Lansing REALTORS® Association.
