Social Media Advertising: What You Need to Know

As social media continues to evolve, the Association has received an increasing number of complaints regarding agent’s advertising on social media. As a reminder there are three different rules that apply to advertising – MLS IDX Rules, Code of Ethics and Michigan Law (Public Act 502).

• Any property that is advertised on any medium (including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc) must contain the name of the agent’s brokerage and either the brokerage telephone number or address.

• If the property being advertised is not that of the agent advertising the property, the listing must contain the name of the listing agent and brokerage and the listing agent must agree to IDX.

• The property being advertised/mentioned must have a fully executed listing contract.

• The property must be in the MLS system within 3 days of a full executed listing contract

REALTOR® Kim Laforet of Coldwell Banker Hubbell BriarWood has earned the REALTOR® Active in Politics (RAP) Award for the Greater Lansing Association of REALTORS® (GLAR). Laforet, who has served as commissioner for the Delta Township Planning Commission for the past 10 years, feels honored to receive this recognition.

“I was surprised and very humbled to receive the award,” she said. “As a REALTOR® I think it’s important to be involved in the community and understand how different political issues affect our industry…at a local, state and national level.”
